The Wood River fire station is located at 501 E. Edwardsville Rd. Originally, Wood River had two fire stations. In 1987, the State of Illinois replaced one of our stations due to the widening and relocation of State Route 143 through our community. As a result, Wood River consolidated into one centrally located station at that time. The station was built for 1.1 million dollars (with over 90% being paid by the State of Illinois). The move put Wood River in an updated fire station capable of lasting into the foreseeable future. It boasts a 3 double engine bay and one single engine bay design as well as a large community / training room. In addition to serving as the fire department training facility, it hosts a number of civic organizations. It also acts as an off-site training facility for Lewis & Clark Community College for Fire Science classes.
