Welcome to the Wood River Fire Department. Here you can find information about your fire department and the services we offer to the citizens of our community and area. The City of Wood River, Illinois is located on the Mississippi River and is approximately 15 minutes Northeast of downtown St. Louis. We cover around 6 square miles and serve a population of 11,300 people. Our Fire Department is a combination department with
both full-time firefighters and Paid On Call Firefighters consisting
of 1 – Fire Chief, Our current ISO rating is 4 on a scale from 1 (best) to 10 (worst). The Wood River Fire Department responds to numerous emergencies besides fires. In addition to municipal type fire calls we also are trained in and respond to industrial fire calls, emergency medical calls, hazardous materials, machinery extrication, confined space rescue, and high angle rescue. In 2008, we responded to 1,466 emergency calls. We now have
three Engineers (one on each shift) that are Certified to
install baby seats. Due to the nature of our business, it is
imperative that you call for an appointment.
